Important Information

Housekeeping Service

Rooms are cleaned once a week by the housekeeping team. Please ensure that you do not leave your belongings on the floor, as it will make it harder to clean your room properly.

To find out which day your flat gets cleaned, please check the cleaning schedule poster on your entrance doors.

The cleaning team do not touch anyone's belongings, food waste or dishes as these are every flat’s responsibility. To make sure towels and sheets are changed - you need to strip off your bedding.

Deliveries

We recommend that you order your mail and parcels to the school as our reception is not staffed 24/7.

School Address: EF LONDON, 74 Roupell Street, SE1 8SS

Safety

London is a capital city, and as in any bigger city you will need to exercise extra caution when moving around.

EF Residence offers you a safe home away from home, however, please take responsibility for your safety by following the advice detailed below:

01.

Make sure that your flat door is shut when leaving. If you have an issue with your key, please speak with reception so they can replace it. If you lose your key, you will need to pay a fine of £50.

02.

Do not allow strangers into the building or your flat. Report any unauthorised individuals to reception or to the EF residence team.

03.

Close all bedroom windows when not in the room.

04.

Report any safety concerns to staff immediately - you can do so both in the school and the residence.

05.

Please note that the emergency number should only be contacted in the case of an emergency that cannot wait until the next day.

Community Standards & Responsibilities for EF students

We want the residence to be a safe and welcoming space for everyone, therefore we have some rules in place for all EF students. Please read through these carefully.

All students must sign a code of conduct before arrival.

This will be sent via e-mail separately.

1

Smoking and open flames

 Smoking is prohibited in all
EF buildings, as are candles, incense, shisha pipes or any
other open flames as they pose a fire risk.
Any student caught or suspected of smoking in the
building can be removed from residence. There is a designated smoking area
outside the residence which students are advised to use.

2

Fire alarms

Fire alarms help ensure everyone's safety. EF operates a self-evacuation policy, and it is your responsibility to leave the building. When a fire alarm sounds, all students must leave the building quickly and quietly, leaving all personal belongings behind regardless of when or weather conditions. Only sound the alarm if there is a fire.

It is an offence to tamper with safety equipment. Any student found violating the Fire Alarm Policy or tampering with safety equipment (including smoke detector) will be immediately expelled from the residence and could face legal action from the British fire department.

3

Quiet Hours

 Please remember that you share
residence with other students and staff. Out of respect
for all, please keep noise to a minimum during our
designated quiet hours:

Monday - Sunday
10pm - 8am

4

Cleanliness

Our residence assistants conduct weekly
checks to ensure that the flats are maintained to a good
standard. Remember that your space is to be shared
equally. Please keep your flat clean and tidy, divide up
storage space equally and treat your roommates how you
wish to be treated yourself.
Please also respect other’s space and their right to a
peaceful environment and do not invite people to stay in
your room or have large gatherings at any time. When you
check out, make sure you take all of your belongings with
you, including removing all your food from the fridge and
cupboards.

5

Weapons

Possession of knives, guns and other
weapons is illegal in the UK, and anyone found to be in
possession of these will be removed from the residence
and/or the EF programme.

6

Guests

The residence is a safe and secure environment for all. As such, unauthorised guests are not allowed to sleep overnight on-site and must leave by 10 pm. All guests in Ability Towers are not allowed to sleep over in the flats or any of the communal areas. If you have people coming to visit, please speak to a member of the residence team who will be able to advise on places to stay in London.

7

Violence & Bullying

Given the international nature of
our school, it is vital to remember that you will be in
contact with people from many different backgrounds,
therefore please be tolerant and respectful to other’s
views, religions and cultures. Anyone found to be
bullying, using intimidating or threatening behaviour or
violence towards others will be expelled from the
residence and/or the EF programme.
Harassment will not be tolerated.

8

Attendance

You must attend all your lessons. EF expects 100% attendance, however a minimum of 80% attendance is required in order to live in the residence. If your attendance falls below 80%, you will receive a reminder to attend your classes and if you fail to cooperate with this request, we may remove you from the residence and into host family accommodation with no refund of residence fees paid.

9

Alcohol

Possession and consumption of alcohol or excessive drunkenness is not permitted in any EF residence and breaking this rule will result in disciplinary measures being taken, which could result in an expulsion from the residence.

The legal age for buying and drinking alcohol in England is 18. It is against the law to purchase alcohol for anyone under the age of 18. You are not allowed to have alcohol in the residence. If you notice alcohol in the flat you must report it to the residence team in school.

10

Drugs

The purchase, sale, possession or use of drugs is illegal in the UK and prohibited by EF. Any students found to be using or in possession of illegal substances will be immediately removed from residence, expelled from EF London and could face further action by the Metropolitan Police. We reserve the right to search your room if we suspect you could be in possession of or using drugs. We trust that you will follow these rules during your stay. However, if rules are not followed we have a system of disciplinaries in place.

In these instances we would speak with you first. If it is a minor breaking of the rules we may agree on a first written warning which doesn’t include a fine.

A final warning will come with the immediate removal from residence and possible removal from your EF course.
